Aplied Biosystems introduces Genemapper(TM) V3.0 software for high-performance genotyping applications

17-Oct-2002

FOSTER CITY, CA-October 15, 2002-Applied Biosystems Group, an Applera Corporation business, announced today that it has released v3.0 of its industry-standard GeneMapper(TM) software, a powerful, flexible package with a high-quality allele-calling capability for large genotyping studies. GeneMapper(TM) v3.0 Software, which combines the functions of GeneScan® and Genotyper® software, is designed for a wide variety of research applications including SNP validation and screening, microsatellite analysis, and sizing-only applications. This new version software can analyze fragment analysis data from all Applied Biosystems genetic analysis systems.

This latest version of GeneMapper(TM) software offers a complete set of interactive tools to define new markers and alleles, edit existing markers and allele bins, set up customized analysis methods, and confirm allele calls quickly and accurately. The entire data-analysis process is automated. GeneMapper(TM) v3.0 Software includes a complete set of tools for quick and easy editing of called peaks, markers, and bin definitions. Previously, most genotyping projects required manual examination of almost all allele calls. GeneMapper(TM) software, however, substantially reduces the need for data review, virtually eliminating this bottleneck.

GeneMapper(TM) v3.0 Software can process more than 50,000 genotypes per hour, a significant increase over other software packages. A process component-based quality values (PQV) system substantially reduces the time required to analyze data. GeneMapper(TM) software also assigns a series of PQVs to identify the cause of the failed allele calls. The system then combines these PQVs with the information from the peak determination algorithms to determine an overall genotype quality value. For optimal performance, specific PQVs are available for di-, tri-, and tetranucleotide analysis. Unique SNP-based PQV parameters are available to filter out problematic data.

An Automatic Bin Builder (ABB) algorithm enhances the allele-calling process for microsatellite analysis by creating bins based on information contained in a specified panel. A series of novel bin-building algorithms enhance automatic size-calling and allele-calling accuracy. These algorithms were designed with data collected from more than 50,000 genotypes. As a result, GeneMapper(TM) software can support a broad range of genotyping applications that use various microsatellite and SNP markers.

The new GeneMapper(TM) software version also allows access to data from other local GeneMapper(TM) databases for convenient data sharing without a client-server infrastructure or associated IT-support costs.
