Ben-Gurion University of the Negev’s Dr. Raz Zarivach named as EMBO Young Investigator
r. Raz Zarivach of the Department of Life Sciences and a member of the National Institute for Biotechnology in the Negev was recently declared an EMBO Young Investigator. He is one of four Israelis to receive this honor among a group of 22 young researchers from around the world.
Zarivach is currently the head of the Zarivach lab for Macromolecular Crystallography at BGU, which is focused on the structural determination of magnetosome-related proteins derived from Magnetotactic bacteria. A second research theme at the lab is focused on the structural determination of proteins derived from various pathogenic bacteria. The lab is involved in several collaborations at BGU as well as other research centers in Israel and around the world, and utilizes various techniques of molecular biology, biochemistry and crystallography in order to achieve better understanding of the structural features of various proteins of interest. He completed his Ph.D., at the Weizmann Institute of Science and his post-doctoral studies at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada.
