Thomas Szucs elected new chairman of Intercell’s Supervisory Board

Intercell AG announced that Thomas Szucs has been elected chairman of Intercell’s Supervisory Board. He takes over the function from Michel Gréco, who resigned from the role but still remains a member of the Supervisory Board.

The new chairman Thomas Szucs has served as a member of Intercell’s Supervisory Board since June 2011. He gained extensive experience in the pharmaceutical and healthcare sector through several previous positions in acknowledged organizations and companies. In his new role he will work with the other Supervisory Board members to support the company in its business and scientific strategic planning.

The Supervisory Board of Intercell now includes the following members: Thomas Szucs (Chairman), Ernst-Günter Afting (Vice-chairman), Michel Gréco, Alexander von Gabain, James Sulat and Hans Wigzell.

Thomas Szucs is Professor of Pharmaceutical Medicine and director of European Center of Pharmaceutical Medicine at the University of Basel. He is also a Professor and part-time lecturer for Medical Economics at the University of Zurich and honorary Professor at the University of Beijing.

Previously he was Chief Medical Officer of Hirslanden Holding, the largest private hospital chain in Switzerland. From 1998 to 2001 he was Head of the Department of Medical Economics, a joint venture of the University Hospital in Zurich and the Institute of Social and Preventive Medicine of the University of Zurich.

Thomas Szucs’ former appointments include Head of Research and founder of the Center of Pharmacoeconomics of the University of Milan, Head of the working group for Clinical Economics at the University of Munich, Senior Consultant at Arthur D. Little Inc. and Head of the Department of Health Economics at F. Hoffmann-La Roche Ltd. in Basel.

He holds a medical degree from the University of Basel, a Master in Business Administration from the University of St. Gallen, Switzerland, a Master of Public Health degree from Harvard University, and is board certified in Pharmaceutical Medicine as well as in Prevention and Public Health. In 2004 he has received a LL.M in International Business Law with a specialization in Intellectual Property- Information- and Technology Law from the Faculty of Law of the University of Zurich. He is also member of the editorial board of several scientific journals and has published more than 300 articles, book chapters and monographs. He has worked extensively in the field of pharmaceutical economics and epidemiology.

In addition Thomas Szucs is Head of the Swiss Association of Health Economics. He serves on the board of various biotech companies and is chairman of BB Biotech, a large biotech investment company. Since March 2010 he has also been appointed as chairman of the largest Swiss health insurer (Helsana Group).
