Monsanto World Headquarters Site Receives Top Safety Recognition

18-May-2006

Monsanto's World Headquarters in Creve Coeur and its research operations in Chesterfield have received the U.S. occupational safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) Star certification - the agency's top safety classification. The Creve Coeur and Chesterfield sites join only a few facilities in the St. Louis area to achieve such recognition.

To earn the Star designation, a site must undergo a rigorous OSHA audit showing that its safety programs and practices reach high levels of excellence. The location must also have an accident rate that is below the rest of the industry. The entire site must meet all the safety criteria to be certified.

The OSHA VPP Star audit team completed its final inspection of the sites in August 2005 and identified no issues that needed additional attention. One-on-one interviews of employees and contractors by the OSHA team showed that everyone was positively involved with aspects of safety and with team involvement in safety performance.
