Biotech City and Genopole(R) d'Evry sign a cooperation agreement

New channels of scientific and commercial exchanges between Quebec and France in the field of biotechnology

31-Mar-2006

As part of his economic mission to Canada and Quebec, French Industry Minister François Loos and Michelle Courchesne, Minister of Employment and Social Solidarity and Minister responsible for the Laval region, participated in the signature of a formal agreement between Genopole and the City of biotechnology and Human Health of Metropolitan Montreal (Biotech City). This agreement is a key aspect of the cooperation between Quebec and France.

Founded in 1998 in Evry, France, Genopole(R) is a sector of excellence dedicated to genomics and life sciences. Like the Biotech City in Quebec, the Genopole(R) is home to academic and private research laboratories, biotech firms and institutions of higher learning. The two campuses are not only complementary in nature, they share the same science and business centre mission.

The agreement covers the mutual sharing of strategic information on companies and government programs aimed at supporting businesses and industrial, the formation of partnerships between businesses, the mentoring of companies, clinical developments, the provision of North-American and European experts, the integration of biotechs , the creation of patent pools , the exchange of expertise and the planning of an annual meeting

The agreement bodes well for greater collaboration between the Meditech Santé Competitiveness Hub and the City of Biotechnology and Human Health of Metropolitan Montreal. An action plan has already been drafted for business development in three sectors of activity in the first year.
