RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C., Feb 19, 2002 (BW HealthWire) --SciQuest, Inc., a software, information and services company that provides solutions to enhance research operations for pharmaceutical, biotechnology and other research-based organizations, announced today two new products derived from its research information portal SciCentral(TM).

"SciCentral has a large and loyal audience due to its news delivery platform and quality of editorial control," said Geoffrey Kabel, Vice President of Publishing & Supplier Services for SciQuest. "By repurposing these assets for use by other portals and organizations in a distributed environment, we expect to grow revenues and provide a very valuable service to scientific organizations. We already have several customers in production and the response has exceeded our expectations. We will begin marketing this service immediately to a broader audience."

Since 1997, the SciCentral research portal has been aggregating breaking research news for over 100 R&D disciplines pertaining to all the main realms of science, from biological and health sciences to chemistry, physics, and engineering. With over 3,000,000 visitors to date, SciCentral has demonstrated the value of professionally edited online news content to the scientific community. 70% of the SciCentral audience has a Ph.D., Masters, or graduate degree in scientific disciplines. More than 6,000 science-related Web sites also carry a direct link to SciCentral, which has earned over 30 Web awards for excellence in content, as well as enthusiastic reviews from traditional research publishers and associations.

"Researchers represent a highly discriminating audience. They operate in a very strict environment where peer-review is paramount," said Dr. Guy Orgambide, Director of Science Community for SciQuest. "SciCentral is managed by professional scientists and each piece of information is individually selected based on accuracy, reliability of the source, timeliness, and relevance to the lab researcher. As with all SciQuest solutions, SciCentral leverages leading technology to serve content organized by and targeted to researchers."

Professional news has been shown to be the top driver of customer loyalty to a Web site and it is a primary factor for users to add a site to their personal bookmarks for repeated use. SciCentral's professional news is selected from releases posted on research wires, advanced communications from professional journals, articles from technology portals and research magazines, and press releases from universities and professional organizations. SciQuest's offerings include two solutions:

The SciCentral Newsfeed will provide to the customer's Web site a daily supply of qualified breaking research headlines pertaining to the biopharmaceutical area. SciQuest's technology allows for customization to match the look and feel - and branding - of the host site. For a modest monthly investment, companies can augment their web presence with peer- reviewed scientific content from a proven and credible source. Implementation only requires a few hours from the customer.

The SciCentral Private Portal consists of a more complete version of the SciCentral Web site, with the branding, site navigation, and look and feel of the customer's site, to provide a seamless user experience. The Private portal includes news from 100 disciplines and resources uniquely screened for scientists. This powerful set of resources would be useful for organizations desiring to make their sites a default or destination home page for scientists.

Once installed, these information solutions will be updated daily by the SciCentral team of scientific editors and will require no additional maintenance on the part of the customer.
