MWG Biotech AG successful in important patent dispute for thermocycler apparatuses.

The European Patent No. 236 069 B1, titled "Apparatus and method for performing automated amplification of nucleic acid sequences and assays using heating and cooling steps" of Applera Corporation, U.S.A., was completely revoked by the European Patent Office. This patent covered the basic structure of thermocycler apparatuses.Several oppositions had been filed against the decision to grant the patent. One of the opponents had been MWG Biotech AG. The decision was made by the appeal instance which is final. There are no further judicial remedies.
