Introducing the MycoAlert(TM) Mycoplasma Detection Kit

Detect Mycoplasma Contamination in Less Than 20 Minutes

16-May-2003
Cambrex Corporation announces the availability of the MycoAlert(TM) Mycoplasma Detection Kit for rapid, efficient, and convenient detection of mycoplasma contamination in cell cultures, even with very low levels of contamination. The speed, convenience, and reliability of the assay now make mycoplasma detection so easy that it can be performed at every cell- passaging step to ensure that cultures are free of contamination and results are untainted. Mycoplasma are common contaminants of cells grown in culture. Studies indicate that more than 15% of cultures are contaminated. Infections, which lead to many serious alterations of cell function, are persistent and difficult to detect - until now. The MycoAlert Kit takes less than 20 minutes to run and uses only 100 microliters of culture supernatant. The assay detects all mycoplasma and acholeplasma infections commonly contaminating cell cultures, and can detect less than 50 cfu/ml. Unlike other mycoplasma detection methods, the MycoAlert Kit is supplied with all of the necessary reagents needed to perform the assay. Results from an independent laboratory in side-by-side tests also indicate that the MycoAlert Assay gives more reliable results than PCR or fluorescent staining methods. About Cambrex Bio Science Rockland, Inc. Cambrex Bio Science Rockland, Inc. (formerly BMA, Inc.), a subsidiary of Cambrex Corporation, is a leader in nucleic acid and protein electrophoresis, providing innovative solutions to facilitate and standardize research. In addition to agarose, precast agarose and precast polyacrylamide gel systems, they are a convenient source for electrophoresis buffers, nucleic acid standards, protein markers and stains for convenient one stop shopping of high quality products for electrophoresis. The MycoAlert kit joins a family of powerful bioluminescent based bioassay kits for assessing cells in cell culture, including kits for cytotoxicity and apoptosis analysis.
