Swiss Array Consortium Selects Silicon Genetics GeneSpring® Data Analysis Software

29-May-2002

Redwood City, CA.May 28, 2002 - silicon Genetics, a leader in life science informatics, today announced that the Swiss Array Consortium in Switzerland has selected its gene expression software GeneSpring® for microarray-based data analysis. The Swiss Array Consortium members who have licensed GeneSpring include the Biozentrum in Basel; University of Bern; Friedrich Miescher Institute; Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (Zurich); Swiss Institute for bioinformatics (Lausanne); Institute of Clinical pathology, Hospital Cantonal Universitaire and the Department of biochemistry, Geneva University.

GeneSpring will help facilitate the goals of the Swiss Array Consortium's collaborative efforts in gene expression informatics. The program's user-friendly interface, flexible data display, and powerful statistical tools allow researchers to quickly analyze large volumes of gene expression data helping generate valuable results. Users can find pathways affected by drug treatment, or a particular disease, find networks of co-regulated genes, predict functions of uncharacterized genes, or find marker-genes for disease classification, and perform additional high-end statistical data analyses.

The objective of the Swiss Array Consortium (S.A.C.) is to create synergies that promote and accelerate post-genomic biological research based upon microarrays and informatics, in Switzerland. The S.A.C. goal is to coordinate the development and implementation of microarray-related experimental approaches and informatics tools including information management solutions, databases, and analysis software.

"We competitively evaluated the informatics products on the market and selected GeneSpring, as it is an excellent tool for gene expression data analysis," said Dr. Michael Primig, Assistant Professor at Biozentrum and founder of the Swiss Array Consortium. "Having access to GeneSpring will enable consortium members to utilize one of the most comprehensive microarray data analysis and visualization tools available. Moreover, they will benefit from unrivaled user-support as well as a highly efficient user feedback driven upgrade policy."

"The Swiss Array Consortium members are Switzerland's most respected leaders in microarray research," said Saeid Akhtari, Chief Operating Officer, Silicon Genetics. "We are very pleased that our software solutions meet and exceed the Swiss Array Consortium's high standards. We will continue to work with them to bring other effective, state-of-the-art gene expression informatics tools to the consortium members."
