METabolic EXplorer achieves a performance milestone in its methionine project

L-methionine ready to enter industrial pilot phase

29-Feb-2008

METabolic EXplorer announced the achievement of technical and economic performance levels which will trigger the industrial pilot phase of its L-methionine project. METabolic EXplorer has developed and optimized a proprietary fermentation process for the production of L-methionine from renewable raw materials. According to the company, this bioprocess is more cost-effective than conventional petrochemical methods. In 2005, METabolic EXplorer signed an exclusive licence agreement on the industrialization and commercialisation of its L-methionine - a compound that is mainly used in the $1.5 billion-a-year animal feed market.

Benjamin Gonzalez, CEO at METabolic Explorer, commented that "methionine was a true technical challenge and the first compound to be outlicensed by the company. Today, the METEX technology is the most competitive process for methionine production via fermentation. The role of our partner - a global leader in starch processing and derivatives - is now to fully implement the industrialization of our L-methionine production technology and take it to the market on schedule".
