Bioniche Mycobacterial Cell Wall Extract (MCWE) Granted New Patent for Production Performance in Animals

27-May-2005

Bioniche Life Sciences Inc. announced that it has had another new patent issued by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) on its core mycobacterial cell wall technology. More than 145 patents have now been issued or applied for related to this technology.

The new patent relates to the Company's proprietary composition, Mycobacterial Cell Wall Extract (MCWE). MCWE, a potent immunomodulator, has now been shown to possess the ability to enhance the production performance of an animal. The new patent is entitled: "Method for enhancing production performance in an animal" (U.S. 6,890,541). Dr. Dragan Rogan, Vice-President of Research and Development for Bioniche Animal Health and co-inventor of the patent, noted: "This patent covers a method of activating the immune system of a newborn animal thus enhancing production performance of the animal by using an appropriate dose of MCWE."

The ability of MCWE to boost the immune system in food producing animals thereby enhancing production performance addresses a critical need in the global food production market. "By using this immunomodulatory technology to increase production efficiency, producers will improve their yields in growth without resorting to the traditional method of feeding antibiotics," added Dr. Rogan.
