New York. Grey Healthcare Group (GHG) announced the purchase of Tokyo-based MIT, one of Japan's preeminent medical education companies. Hisa Umezu, formerly president of MIT, has been named President and CEO of Grey Healthcare Japan. The new acquisition will work closely with GHG's network of advertising and medical education companies to assist local and global pharmaceutical companies with the branding and marketing of their products in the Japanese market. Mr Umezu founded the company in 1992, turning it into one of Japan's most respected agencies. It currently offers a full range of marketing and educational programs, and has expertise in numerous therapeutic categories including psychiatry, gastroenterology, ophthalmology, infectious disease, cardiology, HIV, dermatology, neurology, allergy, and immunology. Some of GHG Japan's educational programs include single-sponsored journals, original and translated textbook and reference books, patient educational programs, promotional programs (training manuals, pamphlets, monographs, slides and CD-ROMs), and meetings and symposia materials inviting top researchers and thought leaders from the US and Europe, and secretariats of medical associations. "Hisa has a great understanding of the local and global marketplace, and we are very pleased to have a company like this join our network," says Lynn O'Connor Vos, CEO of GHG Worldwide. "Grey Healthcare has an excellent collection of global advertising and medical education companies, and GHG Japan, with its reputation and cultural insights, is a very strong addition to our offerings." GHG Japan is fully integrated with GHG's advertising and medical education companies, including GHG Advertising, Avenue Grey, GHG London, Germany, and France, Phase Five Communications, International Meeting and Science, Insight Medical Communications, and CME Institute. Headquartered in New York, GHG comprises 10 companies with 42 offices in 16 countries. It provides an extensive array of integrated services in support of brand acceleration and sales, including branding, advertising, CME and medical education, direct-to-consumer/direct-to-patient communications, managed markets, e-marketing, consumer healthcare research, and contract sales.
