Singapore - Europe's access to Asia

19-Dec-2003
Biotech and medical technology are of the core sectors in which Singapore wants to become a world class player over the coming years. In line with this goal, the Singaporean Public Authorities have set up various initiatives to attract both investments and, in the past few years, knowledge from abroad. Examples of such initiatives are "Biopolis" and the "World Class University" Program, whose goal is to have ten world-class institutes in Singapore within a few years. Singapores most important European business partners for biotechnology in 2002 were, in terms of value, Great Britain, Germany and the Netherlands. These countries are, together with Israel, among the world leaders in the field. In view of the many advantages that international technological collaboration offers in terms of cost sharing and gaining acces to new know-how and markets, DLR-International Bureau of BMBF (Germany), DTI (UK), Matimop (Israel), Senter (The Netherlands) and Exploit Technologies/A*A*Star (Singapore) have decided to organise a match making event called BiotechS'pore. The event is meant for companies and research institutes from the organising countries and is aimed at generating new contacts and fostering new R&D initiatives. The event will be held in Singapore from february 9th through 11th, 2004. It will mainly consist of a series of pre-scheduled meetings between participants from all the participating countries with a matching profile. The intention is to offer each participant about ten meetings with relevant counterparts. Besides the meetings site visits to Singaporean companies and institutes will be arranged. Parties interested in the event may express their interest by submitting their organisations profile here. Expressions of interest may be submitted until December 19th 2003. After December 20th, parties will be invited to indicate who they would like to meet. Submitting profiles, the pre-matching and actual participation in the event are free of charge.
