Aventis Pasteur's E-Commerce Site Receives A Record Number of Orders for Vaccine

VaccineShoppe.com™ Receives More Vaccine Orders by March 2002 Than in all of 2001

SWIFTWATER, PA, May 7, 2002 -- Aventis Pasteur's e- commerce web site, VaccineShoppe.com™, has demonstrated how one of the nation's largest vaccine producers can harness the technology of the Internet to improve customer service.

In the first three months of 2002, Aventis Pasteur received vaccine orders totaling more than $150 million on VaccineShoppe.com- nearly a 700 percent increase over the same period last year.

VaccineShoppe.com was launched in March 2000 as Aventis Pasteur's first step toward extending the company's vaccine business to the Internet. Over the past two years, interest in the web site has grown significantly. The site provides health care professionals with a quick and convenient method of ordering Aventis Pasteur's products on-line, including 24-hour access to the company's product ordering system, account information and complete vaccine prescribing information.

Unlike many brick-and-mortar companies that have launched e-commerce divisions, Aventis Pasteur has successfully integrated the Internet into its existing customer service offering to better meet the needs of its customers. The web site allows the company to expand its service capabilities while reducing operating costs.

"Our vision in Information Solutions is to explore and develop opportunities that will complement Aventis Pasteur's business and facilitate the use of technology to enhance customer service," said John Alexander, chief information officer at Aventis Pasteur.

The success of VaccineShoppe.com is attributed to Aventis Pasteur's unique cross-functional team that is responsible for planning, updating and maintaining the web site. The team consists of seven departments within Aventis Pasteur US including customer services, marketing, information solutions, medical, legal and regulatory affairs. Representatives from each department work collectively to create a seamless back-end operation that allows Aventis Pasteur's sales and distribution departments to quickly respond to customer orders for vaccine.
