High value order for Linde-KCA for an innovative Biotechnology Project in Leuna

18-Jan-2010 - Germany

As the result of the Europe wide tender related to the project Chemical biotechnology Process Centre in Leuna, Saxony-Anhalt the engineering and contracting company Linde-KCA-Dresden GmbH, a subsidiary in The Linde Group, has been awarded the contract to act as general contractor for planning, supply and installation of all technical facilities. The contract between the Fraunhofer Society and Linde-KCA-Dresden with a total order value of approx. 40 Mio Euro was signed on Dec 10th 2009.

Seven process plants for development and scale-up of innovative processes in the industrial biotechnology based on renewable raw materials will be built in the Chemical Biotechnology Process Centre.

The initiative to create the Chemical Biotechnology Process Centre (CBP) in Leuna has been started and an appropriate concept developed under the overall leadership of the Fraunhofer Society for the advancement of applied research, acting for the Fraunhofer Institute for Chemical Technology ICT and the Fraunhofer Institute for Interfacial Engineering and Biotechnology IGB, and in close coordination with the InfraLeuna chemical site service company. The existence of CBP will allow for the first time to close the gap between research and science on the one hand and the realization of the industrial biotechnology in production-relevant industrial dimensions on the other hand.

By realizing the CBP, a focal point for the industrial biotechnology and the sustainable material use of renewable raw materials will come into existence at an internationally relevant integrated site of chemical industry closely linked to the German Science Research network characterized by a considerable nationwide attraction.
