Ludwig Boltzmann Institut für Krebsforschung

The initiative to found a Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Cancer Research began in the spring of 2004, when a group of young scientists set themselves the goal of establishing a network together with partner institutions and biotech companies that would make it possible to break completely new ground in research into the development of cancer. 3 research institutions were won as cooperation partners for this common goal: the Medical University of Vienna (MUW), the Institute of Molecular Pathology (IMP) and the Research Institute of the St. Anna Children's Hospital. In addition, 2 companies could be won for this research project: TissueGnostics GmbH and Cell Danube AG. A detailed scientific project plan for this network was submitted to the international two-stage review of the new Ludwig Boltzmann Initiative and was approved for funding in December 2004 as one of 6 successful applications.
