The Biomek i3 Benchtop Liquid Handler combines the power of a fully automated workstation with the compactness of a benchtop device. With its full-featured drag-and-drop software, the system enables the automation of complex workflows - from qPCR setups to cell transfections and mass-spec sample preparation - without the need for automation expertise.

Precise liquid handling technology for a wide range of applications

At the heart of the system is a robust fixed-8 pipettor head with a pipetting range of 1-1,000 μL and selective tip functionality. In combination with 96-format disposable tips, this enables precise reagent addition for applications in genomics, cell biology, proteomics, drug discovery and forensics. The integrated gripper automatically moves microplates, racks, tip boxes and reservoirs, while camera-based error logging enables rapid diagnostics in the event of malfunctions.

Intuitive Biomek 5.5 software for maximum workflow control

Refined over 25 years, Biomek i-Series software (Windows 11 compatible) offers an icon-based user interface that makes complex workflows accessible even to users with no automation experience. Color-coded tip rack selection, drop-down menus for pipetting techniques and liquid types, and a 3D simulator for risk-free method evaluation significantly accelerate method development. The software supports 21 CFR Part 11 for regulated environments and allows integration of third-party devices with full software control.

Flexible open-platform design with extensible features

The grid-based deck includes 15 ANSI/SLAS-compliant reconfigurable labware positions plus five optional flex positions for plates, tips and reservoirs. On-deck device integration expands system capabilities to include functions such as shaking or temperature control. An optional HEPA filter removes particles such as dust, pollen, mold spores and bacteria for a clean working environment, while UV-C light provides additional contamination control.

Comprehensive training and application support

The system is supported by flexible learning options - from virtual courses to classroom training. Users gain access to labware definitions, comprehensive learning modules, coaching method tools for complex processes such as PCR setup, and a downloadable method repository via MyBeckman Learning. A multi-colored status light bar informs about the current operating mode, while the door interlock function protects the user from moving parts. The Welcome Package includes installation, three learner licenses, instrument relocation for the first year and remote service support.
