SCHOTT Nexterion Takes Over the Microarrays Business Division of Quantifoil Micro Tools

30-Oct-2003

In August, Schott Nexterion AG, supplier of DNA microarray solutions and the youngest subsidiary of the SCHOTT Group, took over the Microarrays Business Division of Quantifoil Micro Tools GmbH in Jena (Germany). The acquisition includes the complete product range of the Microarrays Business Division, as well as the development team.

The microarray product range of Quantifoil Micro Tools will now be supplied under the Schott Nexterion umbrella. The decisive factors for the Mainz company in undertaking the acquisition were Qauntifoil Micro Tools' innovative product range and their convincing product quality. Therefore, no changes to the product specifications are planned. Through the integration of the product range into its own product portfolio SCHOTT Nexterion successfully strengthens its position as a supplier of high-quality microarray solutions.

"We are very pleased that along with the attractive product range of Quantifoil Micro Tools, we have also been able to retain their young, dynamic and innovative team. Our existing product portfolio is ideally supplemented by the merger," explained Dr. Dirk van den Broek, member of the Management Board, SCHOTT Nexterion AG.

With this merger, SCHOTT Nexterion is consistently implementing its strategy for expanding its product portfolio. The company develops slides and coatings for DNA microarrays and has already launched a product on the market: Nexterion Slide A, which facilitates a higher sensitivity when undertaking microarray experiments. SCHOTT Nexterion will continue to work earnestly at making new developments and breakthroughs, such as current projects that include a coated slide for protein applications and multiplex slides.

Janko Otto, CEO of Quantifoil Micro Tools GmbH, made the following comment regarding the merger: "By using the worldwide sales network of the SCHOTT Group we can better market our products which have already been successfully launched. In addition, the access to the resources of the multinational, technology-based SCHOTT Group will provide us with invaluable support in the development of new products."
