Almost the entire production industry is experiencing a paradigm shift. Triggered by this new era of high-tech industry, companies are doing some radical rethinking in order to benefit from digital processes and develop in a goal-oriented manner. Buzzwords like connectivity and interface management are just two of the terms gaining importance in medicinal product production. Next-gen Pharma will take place less in terms of fixed specifications; it will be connected and intelligent, and in the future will be controlled and monitored in real time. The growing volumes of data associated with connected systems are already the basis for fully automated production processes for medicines. Going on the assumption that authorities such as the FDA will soon initiate changes to standards and sets of regulations, companies like Stäubli are already developing robots with software and hardware that can be the center of intelligent, integrated production across the entire process chain.
