MIA Medical Information Analytics has been presented with a gold medal by the German Innovation Award. Using intelligent analysis tools, the Rhenus Group’s start-up creates an all-round data concept in the health care sector and provides long-term simplification for medical controlling at hospitals. MIA accepted its award at the prize-giving ceremony in Berlin on 24 May.

MIA provides smart coding software, automated process solutions and professional services for the health sector through its MIA Coder. These elements enabled the

Group’s start-up, which was founded in September 2019, to stand out from the crowd for the German Innovation Award. The independent, six-person jury gave MIA the highest award in the “Excellence in Business to Business” category. The design council highlights cross-sector innovative and user-oriented products through the award.

Hospitals spend a great deal of time invoicing services that have been provided and finding the correct case coding is a challenging business. That is where MIA steps in with its AI-supported services. The digitalisation of the coding makes it possible to achieve greater case reliability at hospitals. The sensitive data is stored at a computer centre with ISO 27001 certification in Holzwickede in North Rhine-

Westphalia in line with tier 3 standards. “We’re really delighted to receive the gold award for outstanding innovative services from the German Innovation Award and will continue to do all in our power to use digital opportunities for medical controlling”, says Claudia Hobohm, the Managing Director of MIA, looking to the future.

The MIA Coder suggests case-related codes and this makes the processing work more flexible and less time-consuming. Possible manual errors are eliminated by converting the extracted data into accounting codes and automatically storing the details in the hospital information system.
