Tertiary hydrogen bond

Introduction

  Hydrogen bonding interaction in proteins plays a crucial role in protein folding, dynamics and function. A few percent of hydrogen bonds connect distant amino acid residues and are not involved in secondary structure stabilization. These hydrogen bonds have special role in the proteins and called tertiary hydrogen bonds [1]. Tertiary hydrogen bonds can be viewed as a network enabling fast and specific (directional) communication over the whole protein.
