Oskar Naegeli



Prof. Dr. Oskar Naegeli (born February 25 1885 in Ermatingen; died November 19 1959 in Fribourg), a dermatologist by profession, was a Swiss chess master. He represented Switzerland at the chess olympiads in 1927, 1928, 1931 and 1935[1], as well as at the inofficial olympiad in 1936 at Munich[2].

In 1910 and 1936 he became Swiss champion[3]. In 1933 he lost a match to the Czech grandmaster Salo Flohr by 2,0:4,0[4]. He participated in the strong international tournaments at Berne 1932 and Zurich 1934. He is a great-uncle of Harald Naegeli[5].

In the field of dermatology, the Naegeli syndrome is named after him.
