AIDSRide

The AIDSRide were a series of bike rides to generate funds for research and treatment of AIDS and related diseases [1].

History

Originally sponsored by Tanqueray and produced by Pallotta TeamWorks (also producer of the Avon Breast Cancer 3-Day sponsored by Avon Products (currently Breast Cancer 3-Day)) there was considerable and increasing contriversy about the expenses of the production of the more then twenty rides including the nine California AIDSRides. Eventually the production by the event became independently produced by the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center and the San Francisco AIDS Foundation and became the AIDS/LifeCycle event.

Pallotta TeamWorks, the company that produced the California AIDS Ride, and the two beneficiaries, San Francisco AIDS Foundation and the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center, split in 2002, with the Foundation and the Center holding its first AIDS/LifeCycle within a few weeks of the final California AIDS Ride.
