Crossbeta Biosciences is a biotechnology company developing and executing drug discovery programs in the area of misfolded protein diseases. All misfolded proteins in our body contain a crossbeta structure, which normally forms a signal for the elimination of these obsolete proteins. When, for some reason, elimination is not successful, misfolded proteins tend to stick together, which gives rise to so called protein oligomers, eventually leading to deposits of large protein aggregates. Recent insight has learned us that it are especially these oligomers that have detrimental effects in our body, leading to diseases such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease and type 2 diabetes.

Crossbeta Biosciences has developed an innovative oligomer stabilization technology that makes it possible to develop drugs that very selectively target and thereby prevent misfolded protein oligomers to exert their harmful effects.

In our Alzheimer program we have recently completed a high throughput screening campaign with 100,000 compounds resulting in the selection of 5 hit classes with >50% neutralizing effect on oligomer-induced neurotoxicity.
