Deutsches Diabetes-Zentrum (DDZ)

The German Diabetes Center (DDZ) is a member of the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Scientific Association (WGL). The Leibniz Association unites 84 institutes. The DDZ is part of the Life Sciences Section, in which 21 research institutes are located. The facility receives half of its funding from the federal government and half from the state of North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW). The scientific contributions of the DDZ are aimed at improving the prevention, early detection, diagnosis and treatment of diabetes mellitus and its complications as well as improving the epidemiological data situation in Germany. In addition, the DDZ also sees itself as a German reference center for diabetes by acting as a point of contact for all stakeholders in the healthcare system, preparing scientific information on diabetes mellitus and making it available to the general public, as well as coordinating numerous national activities.
