TOC/TNb analyzers:
TOC-L
TOC analysis from ultrapure water to brine – one system for all water matrices
Wide range of applications: from ultrapure water to brines or soil suspensions
Wide measuring range: from 4 µg/L to 30,000 mg/L
Automatic sample preparation and dilution saves time and effort
Fully automatic, compliant with standards and scalable – for laboratories and production
The Shimadzu® TOC-L series covers one of the widest measurement ranges on the market: from 4 µg/L in ultrapure water up to 30,000 mg/L in highly contaminated samples such as brines or soil suspensions. The basis for this is the catalytic combustion oxidation method developed by Shimadzu® at 680 °C using a platinum catalyst and NDIR detection – a method that has established itself as the global standard in TOC analysis.
Fully automatic sample preparation and flexible calibration
calibration The automatic dilution function allows samples to be diluted by a factor of up to 1:50 and enables the creation of multi-point calibrations from a single stock solution – including at equidistant concentration intervals. Sample preparation for the NPOC method (acidification and degassing) is fully automatic, either in the main unit or in the ASI-L autosampler. This significantly reduces manual effort and minimises potential sources of error.
Wide range of methods and modular expandability
The TOC-L systems support the following analytical methods: TC, IC, TOC (differential method), NPOC, and, optionally, POC and TNb. The optional TNM-L module allows for the simultaneous determination of total nitrogen (TNb) at 720 °C. The SSM-5000A solids module is available for solid samples such as soils, sludge or sediments. Various catalysts – including a highly sensitive catalyst for ultrapure water and a high-salt kit for seawater and brines – enable adaptation to a wide variety of sample matrices.
Compliant data acquisition and GLP-compliant software
LabSolutions™ TOC software supports the requirements of FDA CFR 21 Part 11 through integrated database management, an audit trail function and user management with role-based access rights. Measurement data, metadata and audit trails are managed centrally and are protected against accidental deletion or tampering. The systems comply with standards EN 1484, EN 12260, DIN EN ISO 20236, as well as all pharmaceutical requirements in accordance with GMP/GLP and the pharmacopoeias EP, USP and JP.
Space-saving design for laboratory use
Compared to previous models, the width of the instrument has been reduced by 20% – the footprint remains unchanged even when the TNM-L module is connected. Energy consumption has been reduced by 36% (100 V) and 43% (200 V) compared to conventional Shimadzu® models (based on 8 hours of operation per day, five days a week). The TOC-L series is therefore designed for both routine laboratories and high-throughput operations.
