(L–R) Presentation of the Grant Notification: Dr. Ilja Hagen, State Secretary Tobias Gotthardt, Dr. Thomas Diefenthal, Dr. Alexandra Sauter

BioPark Regensburg GmbH—a subsidiary of the City of Regensburg—is receiving further funding from the Bavarian State Ministry of Economic Affairs, Regional Development and Energy. Bavaria’s State Secretary for Economic Affairs, Tobias Gotthardt, personally presented the grant notification during a visit to Regensburg. "I still have fond memories of the opening ceremony three years ago. I am therefore delighted that the BioPark Jump project is being continued," said Gotthardt. "At that time, it was impossible to predict just how well this healthcare accelerator would be received in the region. With 14 founding teams supported to date, BioPark Jump has proven to be a resounding success.

This demonstrates just how worthwhile investments in innovation and entrepreneurship truly are," the State Secretary concluded. "With the 'BioPark Jump' accelerator project—launched in 2023 with the support of the Free State of Bavaria—BioPark established a specialized resource center within its facilities for aspiring founders and startups in the healthcare and life sciences sectors, offering expert guidance on all matters related to regulatory compliance and market authorization in the healthcare field," noted BioPark Managing Director Dr. Thomas Diefenthal. BioPark Jump provides co-working spaces, private offices, and laboratory facilities, as well as personalized coaching and consulting services delivered by experts from the respective industries. The project’s workshops and seminars focus on key topics—such as certification, reimbursement strategies, and clinical evidence—that must be addressed early on to ensure a successful market entry within the healthcare sector.

"Over the first three years, we have seen a wide variety of startups," explained Project Manager Dr. Alexandra Sauter. The business ideas presented ranged from therapies for retinal diseases, improvements in wound documentation, and the development of RNA-based plant protection solutions, to AI-assisted enhancements of workflows between physicians, patients, and clinics. “BioPark Jump collaborates closely with existing founder networks—such as the BioPark Brain 8 Network—as well as with university technology transfer offices and regional industry partners. Given the thematic overlaps in the field of digitalization, we also maintain close coordination with the clusters and initiatives of the City of Regensburg, as well as with TechBase and the Digital Founders' Initiative Upper Palatinate (DGO),” explains Cluster Manager Dr. Ilja Hagen.

The Bavarian Ministry of Economic Affairs is funding the project at BioPark for an additional three years with a grant of up to €249,000. Subsequently, State Secretary Tobias Gotthardt was able to gain a firsthand impression of a highly successful BioPark Jump spin-off. The company, Evanium GmbH, invited him to tour its own laboratory facilities located one floor down. With a current staff of 15, the company is successfully developing consumer care solutions based on secondary plant compounds for both the pharmaceutical industry and the food sector; most recently, it secured €2.2 million in venture capital funding.
