National Book Trust, India, approached the popular science writer Anil Aggrawal to explain to the general reader the dangers of various narcotic drugs. The author discussed many narcotic drugs and drugs of abuse in his book. Some of the drugs dealt with were opium, cocaine, cannabis, LSD, PCP, amphetamines, barbiturates and hallucinogens.

Significance

The main significance of this book is that the subject matter is explained in a very light-hearted, interesting way. The chapters are full of jokes, stories, anecdotes and catch phrases related to each of the drugs of abuse dealt with. This book was one of the few books on narcotic drugs which educated as well as entertained. The reader goes through the stories of discoveries of narcotic drugs, and how many of them were even used for therapeutic purposes. As he is gripped by the stories and anecdotes in the chapters, slowly the fact is driven in, that these drugs are very dangerous not only for the individual himself, but for his family too and even for society in general.
