Multiple trace theory

Multiple Trace Theory (MTT) is a memory consolidation model advanced by Lynn Nadel and colleagues, as an alternative to the "standard model" of memory consolidation. In this model, hippocampus is always involved in storage and retrieval of episodic memory, but semantic memory can be established in neocortex. Thus, according to this model remote semantic memory would be more resistant to amnesia than episodic memory in patients with hippocampal lesions.
