Autism Jersey

Autism Jersey, is a Jersey-based charity dedicated to the support and assistance of people with an autism spectrum disorder, including autism, Asperger syndrome and other associated developmental disorders and complex needs, so that they can lead a full and inclusive life with a reasonable degree of independence. Autism Jersey also assists related professions to achieve the primary goal.

Autism Jersey was established in June 2005 by a group of parents, all of whom have children with autism, led by Philip Le Claire, the parent of a teenage son with Asperger's Syndrome. Philip is now the Executive Director of Autism Jersey, as well as the Branch Officer of the Jersey branch of the National Autistic Society.

Their offices are at "The Bridge" (previously St Marks Primary School), an integrated families centre on St Saviour's Hill near the Hotel de France.

Autism Jersey is still a young charity, and although firmly established, is only beginning to make the needed changes to the local education, social security, healthcare, law enforcement agencies, and other establishments in order to ease the difficulties faced by people with an autism spectrum disorder. However, a number of schemes have already been established, and the charity is working with many other departments and organisations to drive progress towards supporting people with an autism spectrum disorder.
