After fractures, bones often have to be temporarily fixed with screws, nails or plates so that they can heal and grow together. Until now, however, these stainless steel or titanium implants have often had to be removed during a second operation, as otherwise foreign material remains in the body, which can cause problems (infections, bone resorption). For many years, medical researchers have therefore been searching for a material that degrades by itself. Thanks to close collaboration and great commitment to basic research, Syntellix has succeeded in developing a groundbreaking innovation. What patients and doctors have long only dreamed of is now a proven reality: a transformable, metallic (stable) material for implants that degrades in the body.

Syntellix AG was founded in Hanover in 2008 by innovative and far-sighted investors from Lower Saxony under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Utz Claassen. After dedicated work, the start-up achieved a breakthrough: by establishing an interdisciplinary network with outstanding scientists at various research locations, MAGNEZIX® was developed and brought to market maturity within 5 years - an almost revolutionary material which, despite its metallic properties and high stability, is completely degraded in the body - and is even replaced by the body's own bone tissue.

After countless biomechanical studies, both in-vitro and in-vivo, MAGNEZIX® received the world's first approval (CE marking) for a bioabsorbable metallic implant in 2013. In March 2013, Syntellix AG won the internationally renowned Innovation Award of German Industry - First Innovation Award of the World® for its unique innovation MAGNEZIX®. Two years later, the company was named Top Innovator of German SMEs in 2015. In 2016, the title of top innovator was won again, and Syntellix also received the Future Prize from the Healthcare Industry Club. These awards confirm the technological leadership of Syntellix AG. Another milestone of the year was the state approval of MAGNEZIX® by the renowned Health Science Authority (HSA) in Singapore. Today, Syntellix is number 1 in the world in the field of bioabsorbable metal implants and is currently active in 23 countries. Thousands of patients have already been successfully operated on with Syntellix products.
