Deutsche Gesellschaft für Tropenmedizin und Internationale Gesundheit (DTG) e.V.

The DTG was founded in 1907 and currently has around 850 members. As a scientific society, its aim is to bring together medical practitioners, veterinarians, natural and social scientists who practice, research, advise or are particularly interested in the fields of tropical medicine and international health. The DTG is a member of the Association of Scientific Medical Societies (AWMF). The fields of tropical medicine and international health deal with medical and health problems in the tropics and subtropics and in developing countries. This includes all aspects of clinical medicine, hygiene and microbiology, epidemiology, social and environmental medicine and related disciplines. In addition to researching and combating diseases of the tropics and developing countries, an important field of activity is the diagnosis and treatment of imported diseases in travelers and migrants as well as preventive medical advice and care for travelers before and after stays in tropical, subtropical and developing countries (travel medicine). The tasks of the society include the exchange of experience between Germany and abroad, the promotion of research and teaching, the promotion of young talent, the support of further education and training in this field, both in Germany and in tropical countries, as well as advising authorities and private individuals and providing information in the fields of tropical and travel medicine, including the preparation of current, evidence-based guidelines and recommendations. The association pursues exclusively non-profit and scientific purposes in accordance with the non-profit ordinance of 24.12.1963.
