Deutsche Gesellschaft für Nephrologie (DGfN)

The German Society of Nephrology (DGfN) was founded at the beginning of 2009 and emerged from the two large specialist societies "Gesellschaft für Nephrologie" (GfN) and "Deutsche Arbeitsgemeinschaft für Klinische Nephrologie" (DAgKN). It is therefore the largest and most important organization representing the interests of nephrologists in German-speaking countries. As a non-profit association, the DGfN pursues the promotion of science and research in the entire field of nephrology - from basic research to clinical research. Further objectives include quality assurance, further education and training as well as public relations work. The professional policy objective of the newly founded joint association is to bundle forces and thus improve the possibility of asserting the professional policy interests of nephrologists. The new DGfN represents both theoretically and clinically working scientists and doctors - both in the university, clinical and private practice sectors. In addition to nephrology, the society also focuses on transplantation medicine, hypertensiology, cardiology, diabetology and pediatric nephrology. As a German-speaking specialist society, the DGfN primarily has members from Germany, Austria and Switzerland, but is also open to nephrologists from other countries.
