Truffle



Truffle or Truffles may refer to:

  • Various kinds of hypogeous fungi
  • Chocolate truffle, a chocolate confection.
  • "Truffuls" wooden ornaments. See [1]

Of hypogeous fungi, there are three major groups:

  • Ascomycetes, including Tuberaceae, the hypogeous ascomycete family of that includes Tuber (genus), the "true" edible truffles used in cooking, and Desert truffles, of the hypogeous ascomycete family Terfeziaceae
  • Basidiomycetes, including the majority of hypogeous fungi, also known as "false truffles"
  • Glomeromycetes, including truffles formed by vesicular arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi
