Syed Modasser Ali



Syed Modasser Ali is an ophthalmic surgeon from Bangladesh and a former Executive Board member [1] of the World Health Organisation. He was also the Director-General [2] of Health Services ([1]) for the Bangladesh government in 2001, Dean of the Faculty of Postgraduate Medicine and Research at Dhaka University from 1998 to 2001, Chairman of the Bangladesh Medical Research Council [3] from 1998 to 2003 and Director of the National Institute of Ophthalmology [4] in Dhaka, Bangladesh from 1997 to 2001. He is currently the president of the Ophthalmic Society of Bangladesh ([2]).

He is regarded as one of the pioneers of Community Ophthalmology (public eye health) and his book titled 'Community Ophthalmology' published in 1985 is considered by the British Journal of Ophthalmology ([3]) as the first textbook on the subject [5].
