Steven A. Vasilev




Steven Anatol Vasilev, FACOG, FACS, is a gynecologist, obstetrician, professor, and author of Russian ethnicity.

Vasilev received his medical degree from the Keck School at the University of Southern California, where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha national medical honor society. Subsequently, he completed his residency in obstetrics and gynecology and fellowship in gynecologic oncology at the USC-Los Angeles County Women's Hospital and the USC Kenneth Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center. He is board certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Vasilev is Chief of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Service at the Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles Medical Center. Prior to that he served as Director of Gynecologic Oncology at the City of Hope Comprehensive Cancer Center in Duarte, California from 1991-1997. Concurrently, as a member of the academic faculty at the University of California, Irvine, he coordinated clinical research trials and participated in medical student, resident and fellow education in a tertiary care center of excellence. Then, as an associate surgeon with the Women's Cancer Centers, he facilitated development of a private practice network.

Vasilev is Clinical Professor in the Division of Gynecologic Oncology at the University of Southern California (USC) and the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) and actively participates in the training of residents and gynecologic oncology fellows. He has additional academic ties to the City of Hope and the Gynecologic Oncology Group (GOG) via UC Irvine, through which he is actively involved in clinical research.

Vasilev is a proponent of minimally invasive (laparoscopic) cancer surgery, has published on surgical procedures and has been a faculty member at local and national courses teaching advanced laparoscopic techniques to other physicians. He specializes in advanced techniques required to achieve complete cytoreduction in ovarian cancer, to perform minimal blood loss radical pelvic primary and re-operative surgery, and to perform advanced pelvic reconstruction.

Vasilev also holds an MBA from the Anderson School at UCLA and has a strong interest in medical management economics, quality outcomes measures, evidence based practice and decision support. He has been active with and was Co-Chair of the Health Care Management Events Group at the UCLA Healthcare Collaborative, which facilitates exchange of information and services regarding advances affecting the dynamic southern California healthcare industry.

Vasilev is a Fellow of both the American College of Surgeons and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, has published numerous, including a textbook on perioperative care and belongs to numerous medical and honor societies.
