In 2007, Retrospectacle made internet headlines after being served a notice by the Wiley journal, Journal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, claiming that Batts violated their copyrights by using figures from a paper whose results she was featuring.^[1] Batts used the incident to create a discussion and raise awareness of the rights of bloggers to discuss academic results and reproduce figures. Other science blogs rallied to her cause, defending fair use rights,^[1] and Wiley reversed their position, issuing her an apology within days.^{[citation needed]} The incident has been considered a case study in fair use on the internet.
