National Horse Protection League

The National Horse Protection League is an online community dedicated to serving the interests of "horses and those who love them." Its primary mission is to bring an end to slaughter, protect horses from abusive care or unsafe racing and working conditions and promote responsible horse ownership. The website covers everything from horse news and legislative activity to blogs, personal stories, adoption and advice. Supporters can urge Congress or other decision-makers to take action on a variety of issues through the NHPL Action Fund.

Some of the legislative issues that NHPL has taken action on include supporting the Illinois ban on slaughter of horses for human consumption, the closing of slaughterhouses in both Illinois and Texas, and the American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act, a federal bill that is awaiting a floor vote in the Senate.

NHPL's blog is updated several times a week, and horse lovers can comment to engage in discussion on all things horse related. Daily news stories on horse care, the racing industry and adoption and rescue are posted to the site as well, making NHPL a resource for up-to-the minute horse news.
