NCPSSM

The National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare was founded in 1982 to serve as an advocate for the landmark federal programs of Social Security and Medicare and for all Americans who seek a healthy, productive and secure retirement.^[1] This organization's headquarters is near Capitol Hill in Washington D.C. where professional NCPSSM lobbyists can easily communicate with congress. The National Committee is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that acts in the interests of its membership through advocacy, education, services, grassroots efforts and the leadership of the board of directors and professional staff.^[2]

In the past several months, the National Committee has been involved in current Medicare issues. Some of their successful campaign activities include visiting every representative's office on Capitol Hill^[3] to deliver hundreds of fact sheets concerning Medicare as well as pill boxes imprinted with the message "Support H.R. 3162 - The CHAMP Act Is the Right Prescription for Medicare". The H.R. 3162 - Children's Health and Medicare Protection Act of 2007 bill was later passed by a vote of 225-204.^[4] Recently, the National Committee recently led a Congressional briefing for more than 100 Capitol Hill policy staff members on Medicare Advantage overpayments and the cost to taxpayers and beneficiaries.^[5]
