Multiple Sclerosis Trust



The Multiple Sclerosis Trust is an independent UK Charity that was established in 1993 for people with multiple sclerosis, their families and friends, and for health professionals. The Trust is located in the Spirella Building in Letchworth Garden City. The President of the Trust since 2001 is Sir John Harvey-Jones.

The MS Trust works to provide information for anyone affected by multiple sclerosis, education programmes for health professionals, funding for practical research and campaigns for specialist MS services.

Information

The MS Trust provides an Information Service for people affected by MS and has produced several books, DVDs and pamphlets on the subject. Download page. One of the most recent books "The young person’s guide to MS" written with Kerry Mutch, MS Specialist Nurse in Liverpool, won an award at the 2007 Patient Information Award. Other books include "At work with MS", "Living with Fatigue", "Exercises for people With MS" and "Sexuality and MS: a guide for women". They also run a quarterly newsletter called "Open Door".

Fundraising

The Trust has several ongoing fundraising projects, one of them being Parachute Jump for the MS Trust which in June 2007 saw a 79 year old grandmother Sylvia Shaw jump. In 2008 the MS trust is going to be the Official Charity of the British 10K London Run.

Research

The MS Trust has funded practical research which will have an impact on improving services and therapies available for people with MS. Some research that the Trust funded during 2006 included:

National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, Queen Square, London Intravenous administration of steroids: home versus outpatient delivery, Published in The Lancet Neurology in May 2006.

Royal College of Physicians, London Audit of the implementation of NICE’s MS Clinical Guidelines, Survey results were published by the RCP and MS Trust in July 2006.
