Jonathan Michael



Dr Jonathan Michael received a knighthood in the New Years Honours list 1st January 2005.

Since 2000 he has been the Chief Executive of Guy's and St Thomas's NHS Trust where he received his medical training, qualifying in 1970, before his 20 year career as a clinical nephrologist. He spent much of his medical career at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham, before becoming first Medical Director and Chief Executive of University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Trust in 1996. He has also served as the chair of the NHS Innovations Board for London NHSIL, and is a fellow of King's College London

In March 2006 when Nigel Crisp resigned as NHS Chief Executive, Mike Farrar was tipped as a likely contender for the post.
