Johnnie B. Byrd, Sr. Alzheimer's Center & Research Institute

The Byrd Alzheimer’s Center & Research Institute is an Alzheimer’s disease research center based in Tampa, Florida. The center was founded on July 1, 2002, by the Florida Legislature. The effort was led by Florida Speaker of the House Johnnie Byrd, whose father suffered from the disease.

Working with scientists around the world, the Byrd Institute is doing the research necessary to understand Alzheimer’s disease. Together they are taking discoveries from the lab to the clinic.

They are supporting local community groups that provide care for patients and caregivers. The Byrd Institute is working with educators and community leaders to make sure that they are preparing students for careers in science and health care and that they are keeping the best and brightest researchers here in Florida.

The Byrd Alzheimer’s Institute is offering clinical trials that provide Floridians access to the newest drugs.
