Clinical event monitor

A Clinical Event Monitor (CEM) is an automated computer program which analyzes patient data from an Electronic Medical Record to predict, detect and potentially prevent adverse events. Data analyzed by the program can include discharge/transfer orders, pharmacy orders, radiology results, laboratory results and any other data from ancillary services or provider notes. CEMs can also be applied on a much larger scale to analyze data from an entire patient population to establish real-time situational awareness concerning the detection and monitoring of diseases.^[1][2]
