Christine Lee

Christine Lee is Emeritus Professor of Haemophilia in the University of London, and founding Editor of Haemophilia. She trained in medicine at the University of Oxford, where she was awarded First Class Honours and was the first female scholar of the University of Oxford Medical School. She was awarded a Doctorate of Science (Medicine) by the University of London in 1996.

She trained in Haematology at St Mary’s and St George's Hospitals in London, and started research in haemophilia at the Royal Free Hospital in London in 1983. She was appointed Consultant Haematologist in the Haemophilia and Haemostasis Unit at the Royal Free in 1987; she became its Director in 1991 and was made Professor of Haemophilia in 1997.

Her main research interests have been transfusion-associated infections (especially HIV, Hepatitis B and C, and prions) and the bleeding disorders of women. She has published 258 scientific papers, 23 chapters in books, 38 review articles, and has edited eight books, including the Textbook of Haemophilia in 2005. She has supervised 16 postgraduate students. Between 1994 and 2006 she was invited throughout the World to deliver 142 scientific lectures.

Professor Lee is currently a Non-Executive Director of the National Biological Standards Board (NIBSC), United Kingdom; a Trustee of the NovoNordisk Haemophilia Foundation, Zurich, Switzerland; and an Editor of Haemophilia.
