Casa del hombre doliente



La casa del hombre doliente is a foundation located in Guayaquil, Ecuador dedicated to take care of poor sick people in terminal state. They maintain the foundation with donations of people that want to help and they also do some activities to get more funds for example “El clasico de la solidaridad” which is a very famous event in Guayaquil. The foundation now is under the management of Mons. Juan I. Larrea Holguín and Margarita Arosemena Gómez-Lince.

History

The committee to construct “La casa del hombre doliente”[1] was formed in 18 july of 1988 by a group of enthusiastic people that wanted to do something good for society led by S.E. Cardinal Bernardino Echeverría Ruiz y S.E. Mons. Juan Ignacio Larrea Holguín. On April 1993 “La casa del hombre doliente” open officially their doors to the most needy people of Guayaquil and offers them a chance to fight against their Illnesses and maybe live a little more and have a better quality of life. The foundation is located at Samanes 7, in the city of Guayaquil. And now they are one of the most recognized foundations in Guayaquil.

Mission

The mission of the foundation is to convert this center in a place which the extremely sick and poor people have place where they could be treated with dignity and to make this people life a little better in every sense they can and hoping that this place become for this people the waiting room for heaven.

Labor

They focus in taking care of extremely poor patients that are facing terminal diseases like Cancer, Diabetes, Muscular dystrophy, Heart problems, HIV and others. Each time that a new patient enters the foundation the people working there makes and inform of the actual situation of the patient his sickness and his economic status at the moment, and they immediately are being taking care by and excellent group of people that gives them qualified attention and spiritual aid for those moments that they need it the most.

The patients are distributed according to their pathology with a 24 hours attention and they receive:

  • Lodging
  • Medicines
  • Feeding
  • Transfer to other hospitals to receive attention from specialists or to use sophisticated equipment if they need to.
  • Laboratory exams
  • Orientation and psychological aid for familiars.
