Axon Labs is a private company founded by Brown University students. Established in December 2003 and headquartered in Providence, RI, it has created the first alarm clock that monitors sleep states (i.e., REM) and attempts to wake people up in the best stage of sleep[1]. The state of sleep is detected by a headband. A bedside base unit awakens the sleeper during the last light sleep phase before the desired waking time[2].

The founders and Board Members include, Ben Rubin, Eric Shashoua, Jason Donahue, Terri Alpert from Professional Cutlery Direct, David Barone from Sleep Labs, Inc. and Jeff Stibel from Web.com.[3]

Companies that sell similar products include the aXbo alarm clock and the Sleeptracker wristwatch.
