Sanquin Blood Supply Foundation
Short description
# Sanquin consists of seven divisions and two business units: The four divisions of the Sanquin blood bank are responsible for the collection of blood, the preparation of short shelf-life blood products and intermediate products, and the delivery thereof to hospitals and to the Sanquin Plasma Products Division. # Sanquin Plasma Products produces medicines from human blood. The manufacturing process (called “plasma fractionation”) consists of a long series of closely controlled steps within a pharmaceutical procedure. # Sanquin Diagnostics is one of the largest specialised diagnostic laboratory facilities in the Netherlands. Diagnostic assays are performed here for a large number of hospitals and health institutes. # Sanquin Research conducts fundamental and applied scientific research, and provides education and refresher courses. All of the research is related to blood and blood products of which there are four main themes: haemostasis and thrombi; haematology and blood transfusion; inflammation and sepsis; and blood transmissible viruses and immunology. # Business Unit Sanquin Reagents was among the first manufacturers of blood group and immune reagents. By virtue of its research facilities and diagnostic laboratories, Sanquin developed a broad range of blood group and immune reagents, including several innovative products for diagnostic use and for fundamental and clinical research. Sanquin reagents are available worldwide through a network of distributors. Sanquin Reagents is ISO 9001:2000 and ISO 13485:2003 certified. # Business Unit Sanquin Pharmaceutical Services is a dedicated and certified Contract Service Organisation (CSO) offering a broad array of services aimed at the development of biopharmaceuticals for in vivo application. These services include the development of production processes for mammalian cell products, performance of GMP qualified production processes and the validation thereof as well as the performance of all regulatory required safety testing of intermediate and final products. All divisions are involved in their own way with blood transfusion, transfusion medicine and blood products.
