Harrington–Hollingsworth Experiment

Title of a 1950 experiment in hematology, where the academic staff of Barnes Hospital gave themselves transfusions of the plasma from a patient with ITP to observe the effect on platelet counts in normal subjects. The staff observed reduced platelet counts that recovered after a period of several days. This experiment established the autoimmune etiology of ITP. [1] [2]
