A new disposable & ready-to-use bioreactor for seed & lab scale protein production

The SuperSpinner D 1000 is a fully disposable, pre-assembled and ready-to-use bioreactor for efficient lab scale cultivation of cells. Main feature is a membrane stirrer which allows controlled & gentle mixing, bubble free aeration and which avoids foam generation. The gassing membrane ensures higher oxygen transfer and thus optimal growth conditions and higher cell densities compared to the traditional spinner flasks. With this new disposable product Sartorius Stedim Biotech now provides an ideal & economic solution for high cell density cultivation in the scale of 1 l.

The SuperSpinner D 1000 consists of a cultivation flask and a membrane aeration system that also functions as a stirrer. A hollow-fiber membrane is wound around he stirrer bar which contains a magnetic core driven by a magnetic drive unit. A membrane gas pump feeds ambient air through a sterile filter into the flask. The hole set-up is placed in a incubator.

An implemented sampling system ensures save & easy sampling in place during the cultivation. At any time of the cultivation feeding by using the spare port is possible. The cultivation flask is compatible to standard centrifugation rotors, i.e. sterile separation of cells and medium for harvesting or media exchange is possible by using the same flask. The cultivation broth can be transferred directly from the SuperSpinner D 1000 into a larger bioreactor, e .g. by pumping. For this purpose a transfer tubing can be fixed to the Luer-Lock connector of the sample port.

Altogether the simple set-up, low component prices and operational costs as well as the resulting productivity compared to standard cell cultivation techniques provide a fast and economic lab scale production of recombinant proteins, monoclonal antibodies & biomass.
