ProteoNic and Wageningen University and Research Centre, AFSG sign Research License and collaboration

12 Dec 2008 - ProteoNic and Wageningen University and Research Centre (Wageningen UR), Agrotechnology and Food Sciences Group announced their collaboration on the development and expression of enzymes in fungal host systems. ProteoNic has granted a Research License and will provide its expertise in construct design and protein expression optimization. Wageningen UR will apply ProteoNic's UNic(tm) expression enhancement technology in projects in which industrial enzymes are expressed in fungal host systems.

Leo de Graaff, assistant professor at Fungal Genomics of the laboratory of Microbiology of Wageningen University commented: "This agreement allows us to use and implement UNic(tm) expression technology in our current and future research projects in filamentous fungi like Aspergillus niger and other fungi of industrial importance. In basic research it will help us to study the basic principles of protein production and secretion.

ProteoNic CEO Victor Schut commented: "ProteoNic always seeks partnerships in which both parties benefit by the combination of expertise. Here, UNic(tm) facilitates the development of novel enzymes at competitive costs, while we gain access to industry fermentation conditions. Together, Wageningen UR and ProteoNic can create significant value for the industrial enzyme market in the near term future."
